Personal Protective Equipment

PPE saves lives. OSHA will remind you, but let's cover the main few topics here...

Eye Protection- If you move wires and do not wear glasses, you probably going to get copper in your face at some point. Imagine 14AWG MTW slapping you, or arcing out a small power supply. If that does not convince you, google "eye damage wire."

Hearing Protection- Most of us plant staff have hearing loss. My dad is deaf in one ear and I can already hear the ringing starting. I was in a surge tank building just a week ago and a surge came in. It was so loud that, for a moment, I thought of nothing, just crouched in the ground and covered my ears. I had no clue it could be so loud.

You can learn more here or here.

Hard hat- You may not be able to keep your hard hat on in a cabinet, but you do want to wear it around a site. Here is why.

Boots- You want them to be steel toed, water-proof and electrically insulating. Why bother?

This is just a quick run-down, not an exhaustive list. Be safe!
